Hua Hin Attractions: Hua Hin Railway Station, Klai Kangwon Palace, Khao Takiap, Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

Hua Hin Railway Station :

Built in the reign of King Rama VI, the station is one of Thailand's oldest railway stations.

In addition, it is one of the country's most beautiful train stations with unique architecture. Its most striking feature is the splendid Royal Waiting Room constructed in the Thai architectural style. The room was relocated from Sanam Chan Palace in Nakhon Pathom Province during the reign of King Rama VI.

Located opposite Klai Kangwon Palace, this is the first butterfly and herbal garden in Hua Hin. Surrounded by diverse local plants from all over Thailand, it features varied species of butterflies, birds, orchids, flowers and herbal plants. It opens daily from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

back to topKhao Hin Lek Fai :

Hin Lek Fai Hill (Flintstone Hill) is located about 1.5 km west of the city center and provides a panoramic view of Hua Hin, the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course below and the Gulf of Thailand beyond the town.

There is a new park at the top of the hill with many flowers, shrubs, trees and bamboo groves. Next to the first view point there is a statue of king Rama VII with an information about his life. Next to the parking is a exotic birds centre.

Paths are through the park leading to lookout spots with breathtaking views. It is worth to see all three see view points as they show diffrent paronamic view of Hua Hin. The best time to go when there is a clear day.

The road to the top is very steep. Only very strong should try to make their way to the top on bike. Vehicle transport is recommended. On the way to hill you visit some temples.

Located near Khao Takiap, this steep hill lends its name to the temple that is located there. The temple belongs to a Buddhist denomination originally founded by King Rama IV and showcases a collection of large Buddha images dating back several hundred years.

This is situated in an old typical house on Naepkhehat Road. It has a collection and exhibition of many contemporary works of Thai artists, as well as old furniture and many pictures about Hua Hin in the past. The centre is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Admission is free. Call 0 3251 1249 for more information.


back to topKlai Kangwon Palace :

King Rama VII commanded the Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) Palace to be built in 1929. This Spanish-style summer palace faces the sea and dominates an extensive ornamental garden.

The Thai Royal Family still customarily spend the hottest months of the year, usually March through April, there. Members of the public can visit the palace between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. every day, when the Royal Family is not in residence. Admission fee is 20 baht. Call 0 3251 1115 for more information.


back to topKhao Takiap :

This hill, 14 kilometers from Hua Hin town, supports Buddhist temples and offers a commanding view of the resort, particularly early in the morning. A local bus service from Hua Hin to Khao Takiap is located on the seashore.

Khao Takiab is one of the highest area in Hua Hin, by going up this mountain by driving you will see the whole Hua Hin and also nice beach. This is another good place to wait for the sunset as well. Also the food on Khao Takiab is very delicious too.

There is only one beach, which runs from one side of Hua Hin to the other. Basically it's one long beach. At the south end of town, Khao Takiab interrupts the beach. On the other side (technically not Hua Hin anymore) is a lovely swimming beach with a view of Khao Takiab's South face. Just a little further on, Suan Son beach is owned by the thai army, but open to the public. Notable for the tropical sea pines lining the shore. A little south of the Marriott, watch for tiny sand crabs digging industriously, leaving odd patterns of tiny sand clods around their beachfront property.

Parts of the beach closer to the town may have greenish water, in this case continue walking down the beach where the water appears cleaner. There is ample supply of deck chairs along the beach, however many places will charge for their hire (100 baht is common). Deck chairs that are part of a beachside cafe may be free (in the assumption you will buy food or drink).

Koh Singto (Lion Island) is named after the shape of the island. It is a popular island for diving and snorkeling and offers visitors the chance to explore the Hua Hin and Khao Takiab shorelines.


back to topSuan Son Pradiphat or Sea Pine Garden :

Thaao Ko Sa Forest Beach is located 25 kilometres south of Hua Hin.

Thaao Ko Sa Forest Beach is a beautiful and secluded beach at the foot of a hill with small caves. some of the caves a right on the beach and provide protection from the sun. Small local restaurants are available by the beach. Further south of Thaao Ko Sa Forest Beach there is beautiful Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park.

This 11-tier scenic waterfall, some 60 kilometres west of Hua Hin, is located within a yearlong verdant forest where various kinds of birds and butterflies are found, especially in the morning.

Visitors can take a local transport called a songthaew from Hua Hin to this waterfall. The best time to visit the waterfall is from November to April. This place is in charge of Kaeng Krachan National Park. Admission is 200 baht. Camping in the park is allowed and a tent can be rented at 250 baht per night. Call 0 3245 9293 for more information.


back to topKhao Sam Roi Yot National Park :

This park is located 63 km. south of Hua Hin. Its 98 sq. km. area features undulating ranges of limestone mountains, mangrove swamps and beaches. It is home to various local birds and hosts many migrating birds, especially from November to February. With a large number of ridges, Khao Sam Roi Yot (300-Peak Mountain) stands as a landmark for seafarers and a shelter for ships in a storm. Attractions within the park area include: Khao Daeng, 400 m. from the park office, has a splendid viewpoint. Ban Khao Daeng, a canalside village, is the starting point for boat trips to watch wild birds.

Hat Sam Phraya, located 3.5 km. north of the park office, is a beautiful beach lined with sea pines. Accommodation is available. Tham Kaeo, full of stalactites and stalagmites, is situated 15 km. north of the park office. Oil lamps to assist exploring can be rented at a nearby village. Tham Sai is 9 km. north of the park office. Exploration inside the cave takes about half an hour. Oil lamps can be rented at nearby Khung Tanot Village. Hat Laem Sala is a beach located 16 km. north of the park office. It can be reached by boat or by walking across a hill from Bang Pu Village. Ascending a beachside mountain, visitors will arrive at a famous cave called Tham Phraya Nakhon.


back to topTham Phraya Nakhon :

The cave has a big hole in its roof through which shafts of light reach and permit the growth of various plants. Most famously, the light shines on Phra Thinang Khuha Kharuehat, a Thai-style pavilion, a compelling sight which has become the symbol of Prachuap Khiri Khan. The four-porched wooden pavilion was constructed in Bangkok in 1890 during King Rama V's reign, then dismantled and moved to the cave where it was reconstructed. Its gable tops were raised by the king himself.

Rising sharply in the north of the town, beside the sea, this outcrop has a revered temple on its summit. Reached by climbing 395 steps, it features a small pagoda and a troupe of playful monkeys. The hilltop offers a magnificent panorama of the coastline, seascape and hinterland.

This beautiful curved bay, located on the southern edge of the town, is in the care of the Royal Thai Air Force. It was the scene of a battle between the Thais and the Japanese in World War II. Accommodation should be pre-booked with the air force, Tel: 0 3261 1017, 0 3261 1031 ext. 2146.

Wa Ko has been of historical importance since the reign of King King Mongkut when he viewed a full-moon eclipse. There is a long atmospheric sandy beach fringed with pine trees. It is located at Km. 335 of Highway No. 412 km south from the town. Khao Hin Thoen Stone Park is located west of town. To get there travel along Highway No. 4 till Km. 331-332, then turn right and drive for another 8 km. There are nice narrow walks leading out to wide rocky landscape on a mountain top with scenic views of the town.


back to topKhao Hin Thoen Stone Park :

This is located to the west of the town reached along Highway 4, turning off at Km 331-332 and continuing for 8 km. Among scattered boulders, there are narrow paths leading to wide rocky fields on the mountain top which has great views of the city and the sea.
