Cha am Attractions: Marukhathaiyawan Palace, Puek-Tian Beach, Khao Nang Phanthurat, Kaeng Krachan, Phetchaburi

Cha-am :

Today, it is very popular among Thais who love superb seafood and comfortable hotel or bungalow accommodation.

This straight sea pine-lined beach lies 40 km. south of Phetchaburi or 20 km. north of Hua Hin, with which it is often paired as a traditional seaside destination favoured by the Thai upper class. Cha-am was originally a fishing village.

After King Rama VI had Maruekhathaiyawan Palace built, the area was taken up by the Royal Family and the elite for beachside sojourns. Today, it is very popular among Thais who love superb seafood and comfortable hotel or bungalow accommodation.

Advised by his doctor to rest and restore his health in a cool dry place. His Majesty King Vajiravudh, Rama VI, chose to spend his summer at the seaside in Phetchaburi. However, he become dissatisfied with the Royal Residence at Chao Samran Beach because of unhealthy conditions. His Majesty therefore decided in 1923 to build a summer palace near the beach in Huai Sai Nua, Cha-am District, using materials from the dismantled buildings of the former residence. The new site was drier and cooler, with lush natural forest and fresh water. Few people lived nearby, through a train station was not far away. (Read More...)

Puek Tian Beach is located in the vicinity of Tambon Puek Tian, Amphoe Tha Yang, seven Wlometers south of Hat Chao Samran Beach. Otherwise one can travel via Phetch Kasem Highway; a left turn k made at Amphoe Tha Yang to join the road along the Irrigation Canal Route II for a distance of 15 kms.

Puek Tian Canal flows through the area above Puek Tian Beach. The white sandy beach itself is very wide and long. The area surrounding the canal is a prairie dotted with samae trees providing very beautiful scenery.


Most of this area is a limestone mountain. It is very beautiful and unique. The mountain lies from the north to the south, and looks like a giant (Nangpatturat) lying down. Each area has many kinds of lime stones as well as many beautiful caves such as Tham Masang, Tham Mayom, Tham Chaeng, Sra Chaonjao, Yod Nangpantturat, Hup Wang Reau. (Read More...)


Phra Nakhon Khiri Historical Park - It is locally known as Khao Wang (Palace Hill), located up on a 92-meter high verdant hill, in the city of Petchburi . It was built under the royal command of King Rama IV and in 1860 became his summer palace. The whole compound is comprised of royal halls, palaces, temples and other buildings which were elegantly constructed in a well-balanced Thai, neoclassical Western and Chinese architectural styles. Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Centre 14km south of Cha-am at Km. 220, a 4-kilometre branch road leads to the Huai Sai Wildlife Breeding Centre where wild animals, both mammals and birds, are conserved in its shady area. The centre is open every day from 8 a.m.- 4.30 p.m. (Read More...)


Kaeng Krachan National Park was established in 1981, the 28 th National Park in Thailand. It is the largest national park in Thailand, with 2,914.70 sq.km. of forest in the watersheds of the Phetchaburi and Pranburi rivers. It includes portions of Nong Ya Plong, and Kaeng Krachan districts in Phetchaburi Province and of Hua Hin district in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. (Read More...)
